Purchasing postage
Jersey Post uses a pricing structure called Size-based Pricing to calculate the cost of postage. Before purchasing your postage, you may wish to find out more about this system and how it works.
Once you are familiar with this system, there are several convenient methods that business can use to purchase postage for items being sent locally, nationally or internationally.
Stamps
For small volumes of mail, that do not exceed 100g in weight, the most convenient option is to purchase postage stamps. Stamps can be purchased through our post office network which now offers 22 convenient outlets across the island, 6 of which are located within St Helier. Alternatively, rolls of self-adhesive stamps for local mail and for mail to other Channel Islands and the UK can be purchased in larger volumes online by clicking here.
Items complete with the correct postage stamp value attached can then be dropped in any one of the 187 post boxes around the island for onwards delivery.
Postage account
If you send larger volumes of mail on a regular basis, a convenient solution for your business may be a postage account. A postage account is an easy-to-use alternative to franking your mail or purchasing stamps and provides customers with the added convenience of a monthly settlement.
Certain criteria apply when opening a Postage Account and our Relationship Managers would be happy to discuss these, and the full business benefits of the service with you either over the phone or by appointment and can be contacted on 616590.
Franking meter
A franking meter enables you to quickly and easily frank your own letters, bypassing the need to regularly reorder stamps.
The meter is topped up in a similar way to topping up a pay-as-you-go mobile phone, and can be done either online or over the phone. This gives the added business benefit of knowing exactly how much money your business is spending on postage. Along with the postage value, many franking meters will also be able to print your company logo and any relevant message on to your mail giving your business a consistent corporate image.
Unlike regular stamped mail, franked mail can only be deposited in certain post boxes. As a franking meter customer, you will be allocated a specific posting point when you receive your franking meter licence. These points are located at:
- Rue des Pres
- Commercial Street
- Bath Street
- La Collette
- Les Quennevais
