26.08.10 - Beating excess baggage
Jersey Post has joined forces with the Department for Education, Sport & Culture to help new students move their belongings cheaply and easily to their chosen university in September.
Jersey Post recently approached the Department for Education, Sport & Culture to notify all potential first year students of the benefits of posting their items to university. With the cost of undertaking a degree increasing for students, the Education Department agreed to send out information to all new first year students on behalf of Jersey Post.
Head of Careers Andy Gibbs said: “We were pleased to help Jersey Post inform new students of this convenient and cost-effective service. Moving to university is a major step for many local students and with limited methods of transport to get off the island, the costs of getting to university can soon add up.”
It costs just £14.00 to post a 30kg suitcase or box to the UK which is considerably cheaper than airline excess baggage charges. For a small additional fee Jersey Post will collect the goods from customers’ houses to ensure door-to-door delivery
“This is a service which is not just available to students,” stated Gary Carroll, Service Delivery Director at Jersey Post. “Many people overlook the benefits of posting their belongings to the UK. Not only is it more cost effective than excess baggage charges, but your belongings are delivered straight to your door without the necessity to lug heavy suitcases through airports or on public transport.”
Students can also take advantage of this service when returning to the island by simply contacting Jersey Post who will then organise collection of their belongings from university and deliver them back to Jersey.
