23.03.10 - Jersey Post Recreational Championships 2010
Jersey Post is supporting a community event for young Island gymnasts to showcase their skills.
The Jersey Post Recreational Championships 2010 takes place in May and is the highlight of the year for gymnasts aged from four to 12 years. This year sees the 30th anniversary of the competition and up to 150 children are expected to take part.
Competition organiser Matthew Maletroit of the Jersey Gymnastics Club said they were most grateful to Jersey Post for its generosity as the sponsorship would help make the event a memorable occasion for the gymnasts and spectators alike.
‘It is a fun and friendly competition which has been designed for young gymnasts and it provides an excellent opportunity for family and friends to see how the gymnasts have progressed. This year is special as we shall be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the competition. Jersey Post’s support will also help us to build the event into a major fixture in the Island’s sporting calendar by attracting a high number of entries this year,’ he said.
The Head of Commercial Development at Jersey Post, Liz Purgal, said they were delighted to be supporting young athletes. Over the past year the company has supported many sporting initiatives including the Jersey Team in the Island Games, the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon, the Jersey Rugby and Hockey associations and junior tennis players. Jersey Post is also the sponsor of the annual Sark to Jersey Rowing Race.
‘As a long-established local business with a tradition of serving the community, Jersey Post is proud to sponsor community sporting events and to add the Jersey Gymnastics Club to the list of those we support,’ she said.
The competition takes place on Sunday 16 May at St John’s Sport and Recreation Centre. It is open to all recreational gymnasts who are members of the Jersey Gymnastics Club.
