28.10.09 - New free service extended
Jersey Post is extending the trial of its new SecureDrop delivery service to ten parishes over the next fortnight.
SecureDrop is a convenient and free service designed to provide Islanders with an alternative parcel delivery location. The purpose is to enable householders to nominate a location on their property where larger packets and parcels, that do not require a signature, can be left by the postman if there is no answer at the door. The service does apply to Special Delivery or Recorded Delivery items of mail.
Following the success of the initial trial in St Saviour - during which 300 householders signed up for the service - from this week, it is being extended to St Brelade and St Clement. Next week, the trial will be rolled out in St Lawrence and Grouville, and the parishes of St Ouen, St Peter, St Mary, St John, Trinity and St Martin from Monday 9 November.
Postal Services General Manager Andy Jehan said the trial would continue until the end of the year but it would not be extended to St Helier until January 2010. He explained that rather than introduce the service across the Island at the same time, Jersey Post decided to undertake the trial in stages to ensure that customers received the best service possible.
‘We took the decision to trial and refine SecureDrop in one parish before rolling it out to the rest of the Island. St Helier will be the last parish to receive this service simply due to the complexity that this parish presents with such a high number of dwellings, quantity of shared/communal residences and the density of flats. We also wanted to make sure that those customers who live in the other parishes and find it most difficult to get to Commercial Street to collect an item, received the service first,’ he said.
Householders in the relevant parishes will be advised by letter on how the service works and how to sign up. Should customers require additional information, or have any questions about the service, they are advised to contact the Jersey Post Customer Services Team on 616616 or by email to customerservice@jerseypost.com
