Jersey Post's Philatelic department produce a range of different products.This page gives a brief explanation of the product names you might see.
Definitive stamps
The stamps in general use, often of small size and usually on sale for at least five years.
First Day Cover
A specially designed envelope bearing new stamps cancelled on the day of issue with a special "First Day" postmark or 'cachet'.
Miniature Sheet
A small sheet containing one stamp which is integral to the overall design of the sheet. The full, intact sheet is valid for postal use, as is the stamp removed from it.
Non-value indicator
Stamps bearing wording relating to the postage they are valid for but without a specified face value. They remain valid for full postage after postal rates have increased.
Presentation Pack
A decorative folder containing a set of stamps with relevant background information.
Prestige booklet
A stamp booklet that contains special panes of stamps, together with additional illustrations and informative text.
Set
Every stamp issue consists of a set of unique designs. Each design is relevant to a specific postal price.
Souvenir Miniature Sheet
A small sheet containing a selection, usually 3, of stamps in an issue, incorporated into one, special design.
Souvenir Sheetlet
A small sheet containing one of each stamp in a given issue surrounded by a decorative border or 'selvedge'.
Stamps, Miniature Sheets, Souvenir Miniature Sheets, Souvenir Sheetlets and Booklets can be bought in two conditions:
- Mint - uncancelled stamps
- CTO - 'cancelled to order' with a special commemorative cancellation mark
Year Book
A Year Book contains all the stamps (excluding Souvenir Miniature Sheets, Souvenir Sheetlets, and reprints) produced in a specific calendar year. On average they contain 13 sets of stamps and make a delightful and unusual gift.
