13.01.12 - Diamond stamp sells out!

Jersey Post has sold out of its ‘world first’ Limited Edition Souvenir Miniature Sheet in just seven days.

Having announced last week that the Jersey Philatelic Bureau was taking pre-orders for the special issue to commemorate the accession of Her Majesty The Queen, orders have flooded in.  The issue, which incorporates a genuine 1.25mm hand-cut diamond in the design, is due for release on 6 February 2012.

“This is a tremendous response” said Sally Diamond Ferbrache, Head of Philatelic, “and what is even more pleasing is the response from the people of Jersey as well as our dedicated customers.”

Of the 600 Limited Edition Souvenir Miniature Sheets priced at £125 each, over half have been snapped up by local residents.  Mrs Diamond Ferbrache went on to explain, “People collect stamps for all sorts of reasons: as an investment, to learn about a particular country, or because they are collectors of ‘thematic’ subjects such as planes, lighthouses or royalty, for example.  The hobby is often thought of as dying out; in fact, it has never been a more exciting time to collect stamps as through these tiny works of art, postal administrations are providing a platform to showcase innovative designs and printing techniques in what remains a highly competitive market.”

For those who were not fortunate enough to buy one of the Limited Edition products, the same Souvenir Miniature Sheet – without the diamond - is available, together with a range of complementary products, to view and order now at www.jerseystamps.com
