17.06.10 - Ferry Fire – mail update
Following the fire on board the Commodore Clipper yesterday, further details have now been released regarding the degree of damage to the vessel and how services will be affected as a result.
Jersey Post is working closely with Condor and other supply chain partners in order to minimise delays to the mail services that rely on Condor sailings for despatch to the UK and beyond. As a consequence of the disruption the fire has caused to ferry sailings, Jersey Post can confirm that some services will be affected.
All inbound parcel services as well as second class UK mail are affected and will experience minor delays as a result of the contingency planning implemented to help resume normal operations as quickly as possible. Jersey Post estimates the delay to these services to be approximately 24 hours.
All items of letter mail leaving the island remain entirely unaffected as these items are dispatched to the UK every evening by air. However, any parcel being sent to the UK from the island will be affected by yesterday’s event and will also experience slight delays while work continues in order to resume normal service. Again, Jersey Post believes that these items will only be delayed by approximately 24 hours.
Jersey Post’s bulk mail customers are being kept informed regarding the outbound mail situation, and will continue to be liaised with on an individual basis.
Further updates on the situation will follow as details are released from Condor. However, any customer with concerns regarding the despatch of postal items to the UK or internationally, should contact Jersey Post Customer Services on 616616 or email customerservices@jerseypost.com.
