The Health and Safety Manager at Jersey Post, David Grimes, has been made an accredited trainer by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.

The Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) is the chartered body for health and safety professionals and Mr Grimes is a Chartered Member. He applied to become an accredited trainer and by successfully planning, conducting and marking a course he met the requirements to become one of a handful of IOSH accredited trainers in the Channel Islands.

Jersey Post’s Retail General Manager David Gibbons, Retail Operations Manager Beverley Luton, Human Resources Development Administrator Laura King and Support Assistant Jason Gow have qualified for the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Managing Safety Certificates. They are the first Jersey Post Group employees to complete the course and their qualifications will enable the business to comply with amendments to the Health and Safety at Work (Jersey) Law.  The revised legislation requires managers to undertake risk assessments and to understand employers’ health and safety responsibilities and accountabilities.

Mr Grimes said his qualification to train others would help the Jersey Post Group to meet its legal requirements as an employer.

‘As an accredited IOSH trainer I can run all the courses our managers and supervisors are required to undertake so all the staff in senior supervisory capacities at Jersey Post are qualified under the Island’s health and safety legislation.  This will be beneficial for my colleagues and the Group.’ said Mr Grimes.

With more than 36,000 members, IOSH is the world’s largest professional health and safety organisation. Since it was established in 1946 it has defined and maintained standards for the profession and supports, develops and connects its members with resources, guidance, events and training.
