26.10.09 - Special Delivery Guarantee Reinstated

Jersey Post is pleased to confirm that the guarantee on Special Delivery items has been reinstated with immediate effect. The guarantee was suspended at the end of last week during the industrial action by postal workers in the UK.

Jersey Post’s General Manager of Postal Services Andy Jehan said although the guarantee was suspended, in excess of 98% of Special Delivery items were delivered by Royal Mail on Friday, despite the widespread industrial action, adding that the feedback on the service from our customers had been very positive.

Further action is planned for later this week although talks between both parties are taking place today which are being facilitated by the TUC. Jersey Post remains hopeful that a resolution can be found to prevent any further action from taking place.

An increased load has been received from Royal Mail today; all of this mail has been processed and will be delivered as normal thanks to a great team effort by our staff.

The industrial action has had no impact on International Courier or parcels services, local or inter-insular mail and the new Ship2me delivery service.

‘In the meantime our advice remains the same: post as normal, or as early as possible in case a resolution is not found and further action is taken. We recommend that time sensitive items of mail are posted by Special Delivery,’ Mr Jehan said.

Jersey Post will issue further information as and when it is available and apologies in advance for any inconvenience to customers.
