26.02.10 - Supports for Madeira
The Jersey Post Group is offering free calls on its pay-as-you-go mobile phone network, me:mo and MoneyGram transactions to members of the local Portuguese community who are wishing to contact and help loved ones in Madeira.
The me:mo offer is available to anyone with family members or close friends living in Madeira and allows individuals to make free calls to Madeira and Portugal until Saturday 13 March. Additionally, the network is providing free credit, which equates to over two hours of talk time to Madeira and Portugal, which can be used until the end of March.
To benefit from this offer, interested individuals simply visit the me:mo store in the main Post Office in Broad Street from Monday to Saturday between 9 am and 5 pm before 13 March.
The MoneyGram offer provides free money transfers to individuals in Madeira at all Jersey Post outlets* until 13 March and, thereafter, until the end of March at a reduced flat fee of £4.99, for any transaction amount. Simply pop in and fill out a form and the money will be safely and securely transferred in just ten minutes.
The Managing Director of Jersey Post International Development, Gary Whipp, said: ‘Island communities are unique and very special and Jersey has always rallied together when another island community has suffered great tragedy. Obviously, the connection with Madeira is very strong as a large number of our local community have family and loved ones who will have to deal with the level of destruction that has taken place.’
Gary Whipp adds: ‘This offer is available to anyone who has loved ones who may have been affected and I would urge the local Portuguese community to spread the word to non-English speaking friends in Jersey who may miss out. We will be posting notices in Portuguese, at key locations around the Island.’
