20.10.09 - Jersey Post supports half-term fun
There is no excuse for children to get bored next week as Jersey Post is supporting a range of art and craft activities taking place at the Harbour Gallery in St Aubin throughout the autumn half-term holiday.
A series of workshops organised by Art in the Frame aimed at 6 to 14 year olds is taking place daily from Monday to Friday. Each session will be led by a professional tutor with the emphasis on combining fun with learning. Themes to be covered include: designing stamps and Christmas cards, making 3-D angels and animals, communicating with children in other countries and learning how to draw faces. The children will also be able to make masks and witches hats for Halloween.
Pat Robson of Art in the Frame said they really appreciated the support being provided in so many ways by Jersey Post.
‘This is about providing a totally different sort of workshop and showing children that there are alternatives to simply sending emails. As well as making items to send through the post, the children will learn about the postal service and the process of writing messages and addressing items which they will send to other children all over the world,’ she said.
As well as providing practical advice for the workshops, Jersey Post will exhibit the children’s stamps designs in a special exhibition to be staged early next month at Broad Street Post Office.
The Head of Commercial Development at Jersey Post, Liz Purgal, said they were delighted to be involved in the Art in the Frame initiative to encourage children to develop their artistic skills in such a variety of ways, while also learning how the postal network works.
‘We may live in the age of computer aided design and e-communications but children still very much enjoy the more traditional and practical approaches to learning. Pat and her team have come up with an imaginative programme to suit the abilities of a broad age range. We hope that parents will take up the opportunity to engage their children in the various activities on offer next week,’ she said.
