01.11.10 - New self-adhesive stamps

On 1 November, Jersey Post will release a new set of self-adhesive postage stamps to assist with recently introduced sized-based pricing for local letters and letters to the UK, Isle of Man and other Channel Islands.

Jersey Post is introducing these stamps so that customers can easily and quickly identify the correct postage for their letter-sized items. The new stamps come in three different colours:

  • 36p - Red – Standard Delivery for local small-letter sized mail.
  • 39p - Blue – Priority Delivery for local small-letter sized mail.
  • 45p - Green – for delivery of small-letter sized items to the UK, Isle of Man and other Channel Islands.

Only one of the new stamps is needed for small-letter sized items (up to A5 in size) such as greetings cards, personal letters, postcards and bills. Any item that exceeds A5, weighs over 100g or is thicker than 5mm is categorised as a large letter (up to A4 in size) and will require additional postage.

Whilst these new stamps replace all previous editions of self-adhesive stamps, the old-style versions are still valid and Jersey Post would like to remind customers that they can still be used in a number of ways from 1 November:

Local stamp usage

  • Option 1 – apply old-style single minimum postage paid stamp (for a small-letter sized item) and receive Standard Service for up to a three-day delivery target.
  • Option 2 – apply old-style single minimum postage paid stamp (for a small-letter sized item) and add an additional 3p stamp to the item to receive priority next-day service.
  • Option 3 – bring the old-style self-adhesive stamps to any post office to swap them for new stamps and pay the difference.

Any old self-adhesive stamps for the UK, Isle of Man and other Channel Islands can continue to be used as normal as the service remains unchanged. However, if customers would like to swap them for the new version, this can also be done at any post office.

Jersey Post would like to point out that by not applying the correct postage to items, the recipient will be asked to pay a surcharge to cover the cost of the postage shortfall. This can delay delivery of mail and in some cases, prevent delivery altogether as some recipients choose not to pay the surcharge and the item is returned.

Customers with queries regarding the size of their item and the amount of postage to apply, information can be found on www.jerseypost.com/sbp or by telephoning the Jersey Post Customer Services Team on 616616.
