16.10.09 - Industrial Action in the UK
Jersey Post would like to assure its customers that it is in regular dialogue with Royal Mail in an effort to minimize the disruption to services caused by industrial action across the UK Postal network next Thursday 22nd October and Friday 23rd October.
The action by the Communication Workers’ Union will be spread over 48 hrs, with the processing centres and network services on strike for the first 24 hours, and delivery offices for the next 24 hrs.
Jersey Post’s General Manager of Postal Services Andy Jehan said, “Although we are independent from the UK postal services we do rely on Royal Mail to deliver and collect mail to and from the UK. We have no control whatsoever over the proposed industrial action, but we will keep Islanders fully informed about developments, and will do whatever we can to minimise disruption, including looking at alternative options.
“Meanwhile our advice remains the same: post as normal, or early if you are able to. We would recommend that you use the Special Delivery service for particularly time sensitive items, which Royal Mail is still guaranteeing to deliver on the next working day”.
As always it is important to ensure that you use the correct addressing standards. This helps to maximise the amount of mail that can be sorted by machine and will help to minimise any potential delay.
Jersey Post will issue further information as and when it is available and apologies in advance for any inconvenience to customers.
