23.12.10 - Weather update

Despite continued heavy snowfall this morning, particularly across the central part of the UK, and freezing temperatures in other parts of the UK, the Royal Mail has confirmed that mail collection and delivery services are operating across the majority of the UK’s 3000 postcode sectors. This means that any mail leaving Jersey is getting through to the Royal Mail network for onward delivery.

As normal at this peak posting time of year, postal staff have rallied and worked incredibly hard in order to minimise the disruption caused to inbound mail because of the bad weather in the UK. Today’s post may arrive a little later than normal, however this is due to the arrival and processing of over 10 tonnes of mail in the last 24 hours.

These extra efforts not only ensure that these items can all be delivered this morning, but also, in clearing all of these items, Jersey Post is ready to be able to process and deliver tonight’s arrival of mail by sea, and tomorrow’s airmail arrival on Christmas Eve.

Royal Mail has confirmed this morning that no backlog of mail destined for Jersey is waiting in the UK.
