17.12.10 - Weather affects UK mail

Christmas is the busiest time of year for the postal service and locally Jersey Post takes on additional staff to assist with the dramatic increase in volumes that occur every year during December. This year, record packet and parcel volumes have been reached as the trend for internet shopping continues.

However, recent weather conditions are having a dramatic impact on the UK, and in particular Royal Mail postal collections and deliveries have been affected as a result of the adverse weather. The Royal Mail announced today that a £20 million investment will be made in order to deal with the most severe December weather in 30 years.

Due to the continuing bad weather conditions on the mainland, there is a chance that Jersey Post customers may experience delays while waiting for items from the UK, or for items to be delivered to their final off-island destinations because of the potential issues the weather is causing for Jersey Post’s UK partner Royal Mail.

Jersey Post would like to advise customers that contingency plans are in place to deal with the additional volumes that are anticipated next week in the final countdown to Christmas Day.
