2017 Rates and Pricing Changes
Jersey Post has amended its postal rates with effect from Tuesday 11 April 2017. The changes see a penny increase for local letters and a three pence increase on the price of sending letters weighing no more than 100g to the UK, Isle of Man and other Channel Islands.
There has been a significant reduction for items weighting no more than 100g and being sent to European and Rest of World destinations. This reflects the expansion of the Jersey Post Group’s international network and access to improved global services and rates.
The changes to key stamp prices are summarised below:
|Service||2016 Price||2017 Price|
|Local letter (100g)||48p||49p|
|UK, IoM, other CI letter (100g)||60p||63p|
|European letter (20g)||66p||73p|
|European letter (100g)||93p||73p|
|Rest of World letter (10g)||78p||90p|
|Rest of World letter (100g)||£2.06||90p|
The impact of high cost increases from its key national network partner – Royal Mail – combined with the fall in value of the pound. The price changes locally and to the national destinations continue to reflect a number of external pressures, namely: the continuing financial impact of falling letter volumes, coupled with an increasing number of households to which Jersey Post must deliver.
Tim Brown, Jersey Post’s Chief Executive, said:
‘Our customers have highlighted that keeping the cost of the postal service low is a real priority. As an organisation we continue to face a number of major challenges for local and national mail, but our recent network expansion internationally is helping us to leverage improved European and Rest of World rates and services.’
With complete control of mail generated and delivered locally, Jersey Post has increased the cost of sending a letter locally (weighing no more than 100g) by a penny to 49p. In addition, Jersey Post has taken on board feedback from the 2016 customer survey where customers asked for a simplified service structure that better reflects the needs of today’s customers, where larger, more valuable items are more frequently being sent off-island.
The standard postage weight steps have been rationalised and reduced in order to have weight steps where there is significant volume. Similarly, the way in which additional premium services are bought has been dramatically simplified. From 11 April, customers will no longer have to select a specific premium service for their items, instead simply choose to add tracking, insurance or a guaranteed delivery time as required, providing greater flexibility with the services available.
Rates for these additional services start from just £1.00, depending on destination and services required.
