2016 Rates and Pricing Changes
Jersey Post will be amending its postal rates with effect from Thursday 21 April 2016. The changes will see a penny increase for local letter and a three pence increase on the price of sending letters weighing no more than 100g to the UK. There will be two pence and three pence added to the first weight step for European and International letters respectively.
The changes to key stamp prices will be:
|Service||2015 price||2016 Price|
|Local letter (100g)||47p||48p|
|UK, IoM, other CI letter (100g)||57p||60p|
|European letter (20g)||64p||66p|
|International letter (10g)||75p||78p|
The price increases reflect three key pressures:
1. The impact of high cost increases from key network partner – Royal Mail;
2. A dramatic increase in the cost of airmail conveyance, following the removal of the newspapers from the aircraft;
3. The continuing financial impact of falling letter volumes, coupled with an increasing number of households to which Jersey Post must delivery.
Tim Brown, Jersey Post’s Chief Executive, said: ‘Our customers have highlighted that keeping the cost of the postal service low is a real priority. As an organisation we are facing the most difficult year yet in terms of external costs so we have tried to ensure that any price changes in 2016 are reflected in those services where some of the additional costs are being directly incurred.’
With complete control of mail generated and delivered locally, Jersey Post is increasing the cost of sending a letter, weighing no more than 100g, locally by a penny to 48p, whilst letters that are being sent via air mail services to the UK, Europe or international destinations will increase by 3p, 2p and 3p respectively.
‘We passionately believe that the services provided by Jersey Post represent great value for money, and that these new prices should have a minimal impact on most Islanders; the average household spends just £1 per week on postal services. In addition, we will continue to look at ways that we can support the community, for example, offering discounts on key stamp prices at Christmas, which this year, will be extended to run for three weeks rather than the normal two week duration,’ continued Mr Brown.
Business users will see a similar level of increase on their business tariffs with a 1p increase on local letter mail and 3p added to UK letter mail. However, this year, Jersey Post will be introducing a new economy mail service for mailings into the UK. With prices set below the standard business tariffs, this service will provide a slightly slower but more cost-effective service for mail to UK, Isle of Man and other Channel Island destinations.
