Jersey Overseas Aid commemorated on Jersey stamps

Six stamps commemorating 50 years of Jersey Overseas Aid (JOA) will be released by Jersey Post on Thursday 12 July. Designed by Jersey agency TPA, the stamps illustrate just some of the Jersey Overseas Aid projects that have taken place since the organisation’s inception in 1968.

JOA is an independent international aid agency funded by the States of Jersey. Its mission is to help reduce poverty and provide humanitarian aid in disasters and emergencies around the world and in doing so, raises awareness within Jersey, often inviting local residents to take part in aid projects overseas.

Carolyn Labey, Chair of the JOA Commission comments: ‘Jersey Overseas Aid is delighted to be able to showcase some of the recent projects that we have funded in such a unique and visual way. These stamps highlight Jersey’s significant contribution to the alleviation of poverty and suffering around the world, something the whole island should be very proud of. I would like to thank Jersey Post for showcasing Jersey’s extraordinary commitment to international development over the last 50 years, and the many agencies and individuals who have contributed to this Jersey success story’.

Featured on the six stamps are: the Jersey Cow Programme in Rwanda, Famine Relief in South Sudan, the Tropical Diseases Programme in Uganda, Economic Development in Nepal, the Rural Livelihoods Programme in Madagascar and Sand Dam Construction in Kenya.

Jersey Post’s Jersey Overseas Aid stamps will be available to buy from all branches of Jersey Post from 12 July 2018.
