Jersey Post's top tips for Christmas 2019

Posted • 05 November 2019

Jersey Post has recommendations for islanders needing to post or receive items this festive season, which is set to be one of the busiest yet for the island’s postal authority.

So far this year, Jersey Post has processed and delivered 2.8 million parcels locally and as always, volumes are expected to substantially increase in the lead up to Christmas. During November and December, Jersey Post is predicting to see a 50% rise in parcel traffic compared to normal months.

Niall McClure, Jersey Post’s Managing Director for Post and Logistics, said, “Given the large volumes of traffic we’ve experienced already this year, we anticipate this Christmas being one of the busiest to date. Christmas is always a demanding time for everyone at Jersey Post but we’re all set with processes in place to deal with the increase in volumes as the trend for online shopping and deals around Black Friday and Cyber Monday become ever more popular.”

Keep an eye of the posting dates!

Jersey Post works with its network of global partners to ensure that as many Christmas letters and parcels arrive at their destinations ahead of the big day. To support this, and to help customers plan their Christmas postage, Jersey Post has published the following recommended last posting dates:

Further to customer feedback, the popular reduced-price Christmas stamps will be back on sale again this year. These stamps can be purchased and used from Wednesday 20 November up to and including Friday 6 December (the stamps can continue to be used after the 6 December, but the correct, additional postage will also need to be applied). This year, “A Children’s Nativity Play” is the subject of Jersey Post’s Christmas stamp issue. Designed by Sharif Tarabay, the eight self-adhesive stamps have been designed to convey the heart-warming humour of a school play. The reduced postage rates available between these dates are:

Receive your parcels, even when you’re out!

These days, Christmas postage is more about online shopping orders being posted to households island-wide. To help accommodate this increasing trend, Jersey Post offers several free alternative delivery services that enable parcels to be delivered when Islanders are not at home. Over a third of island households are now signed up to the SecureDrop service, which offers customers the option of delivery to a safe, weatherproof location within the grounds of the property, or to a trusted neighbour.

Alternatively, Jersey Post’s free parcel lockers provide eager online shoppers with the added convenience of collecting parcels 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Parcel lockers are ideal for customers who are often out during the day, but perhaps do not have a secure, convenient storage location at their property. Any item, even those that usually require a signature, can be delivered straight into a secure 24/7 locker for customers to collect at their leisure. These combined services ensure that customers receive their items more quickly and without having to collect from the Rue des Pres parcel collection depot. Lockers are now available at six different locations around the island.

Look out for the Christmas posting guide

Finally, next week all households will be receiving Jersey Post’s Christmas posting guide through their letterbox. This easy to read leaflet contains information on recommended last posting dates, opening times for Broad Street and Rue des Pres Post Office and the parcel collection counter, as well as other helpful information regarding Christmas postage. This information can also be viewed online at www.jerseypost.com/christmas.
