Mail Plane Replacement Services

Posted • 04 August 2023

From Monday 7 August 2023, the dedicated mail delivery aircraft operated by Royal Mail will cease flights to and from Jersey. As a result, all inbound and outbound mail will be carried by the existing ferry service.

Since we were made aware that Royal Mail was considering ending the mail delivery aircraft, we have been working to implement contingency plans for those customers who may be most affected by the decision.

We are pleased to advise that there will be no change to business collection times or post office cut off times for same day despatch. However, the removal of the mail plane will result in a minimum two-day delivery from the date of posting. In addition, we have been working with FedEx to continue to provide a service for the Island. We have redesigned the process, and the new service will utilise links from Jersey to Portsmouth to ensure that international products are unaffected by the change. The UK domestic product will become a two-day service but will continue to have all the FedEx benefits, such as full end-to-end tracking and multiple delivery attempts.

Early boat despatch times

With mail transported via ferry service going forward, there will be a handful of occasions when, due to earlier tide times, we must bring our collection service and post office cut off times forward to ensure a same day despatch. On these occasions, we will notify you the week before of any changes so that you can ensure that any time critical mail items are not affected by the earlier pick-up and drop-off times.

Same day despatch/Collection Times

Collection times will be unaffected and remain the same for most of the year, however, on occasions, there will be an earlier collection time due to the early tides meaning an earlier boat departure time. Customers will be notified of these earlier departure times in advance in order to make same day despatch. New collection times will be as follows:

Collection locations   Normal boat collection times
(from 7 Aug)
Early boat collection times
(dates TBC each quarter)
Business Direct Customers    15:00 – 17:00 14:30 - 15:30
Postboxes   10:00  10:00
Sub post offices   16:00 15:00
Broad Street   17:00 15:00
Rue Des Pres   18:00 16:00

We understand that changes to these services can be inconvenient, however, our priority is to ensure we are still able to offer customers a same day despatch service into the UK.
